Trust-based Philanthropy is the practice of addressing inherent power imbalances between funders and nonprofits to create a more equitable nonprofit-funder relationship. As grant professionals, what is our role in this movement and is it something we should become stronger advocates for? Please join us this month for a presentation and discussion on Trust-based Philanthropy led by G.P.A. member Vanessa Baker Rodriguez. We will explore the roots and principles of this movement, the successes and challenges it faces in attaining widespread adoption, as well as ways we as grant professionals can foster greater trust and transparency in our own relationships with funders. Vanessa is a fund development consultant with 14 years' experience in nonprofit leadership and philanthropy. She spent the lion's share of her career working as a fundraising generalist at nonprofits such as the YMCA, Outward Bound California, and ScholarMatch, and deepened her knowledge and leadership by serving as Board Chair for a grassroots nonprofit called Impact Bay Area and by attaining a Masters of Nonprofit Administration degree from the University of San Francisco. Having started her own consultancy in January of this year, Vanessa enjoys partnering with hardworking nonprofit professionals at small to midsize nonprofits to develop and execute relationship-based fundraising strategies with both individual and institutional funders.
