Key Statistical and Economic Statistics are in Jeopardy
Last week the US House of Representatives voted to cut the US Census Bureau budget. The cuts include eliminating the annual American Community Survey and the Economic Census, which provide data on local, state and national social and economic indicators. Of relevance to public health, social service, government planners, researchers and evaluators, and others is that these surveys provide data about communities and provide information that is critical for documenting need for programs and services, and for evaluating trends. The information is useful in grant applications and allocation to areas in greatest need of services and resources.
The budget cuts have been forwarded to the US Senate. If you want to express your opinion, you can write to the Florida Senators, Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio.
