Print Email

GPA's 2012 Call for Presenters is now CLOSED.

We would like to thank everyone who submitted a proposal.  The National Office and Professional Growth & Development Committee are reviewing all the applications.  Notifications are expected to be sent out the week of April 9-13th.

Call for Conference Presenters

 Deadline: February 15, 2012

The Grant Professional Association and the Professional Growth and Development Committee invite you to join a distinguished group of experts who will be presenting workshops at the 2012 Annual National Conference October 17-20 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

These pages provide links to application instructions, the online application, and supplementary materials that will assist you in creating a quality session proposal. Please note that this is a competitive process. The Committee usually receives almost double the number of proposals as there are sessions to fill and sometimes multiple proposals on the same topic.

It is critical that you follow all of the application instructions carefully and provide as much detail about the content of your proposed session as possible. Incomplete applications are discarded and not reviewed. The Committee checks all references for all speakers. Please obtain permission and accurate email and phone contact information from your references and notify them to expect to be contacted by a member of the Committee.

All applications must be submitted electronically using the online application. No paper applications will be accepted. You may submit more than one application, but submit only one session proposal per application.

Presentation Information

Presentation Length:  Options for session lengths are:

  • 1½ hours (no break)
  • 3 hours (presented as two 1½ hour sessions, with the normal session break between)*
  • All-day 6-hour sessions (morning and afternoon, with additional breaks and 1½ hours for lunch*)

*Please note that 3-hour and 6-hour sessions are rare. Applicants must provide sufficient detail in their session proposals and an explanation of why the extra time is necessary.

Presentation Topics:  Presentation topics should be aligned with conference skill tracks/GPC competencies, which are listed on the Skill Tracks page. The Presentation Topics page offers potential topic ideas, some as suggested by previous conference attendees.

Conference Skill Tracks:  Conference attendees represent grant professionals from diverse areas of practice.  Each applicant should identify the skill track Skill Tracks page that aligns with the topic of the proposed presentation so that we can ensure that as many competencies as possible are addressed at each conference.

Attendees’ Professional Levels:  While beginners to grantsmanship are welcome and encouraged to attend the conference, GPA is especially interested in increasing the number of presentations targeting intermediate to advanced professionals, who are the majority of conference attendees.

Discounted Conference Fees:  GPA is pleased to offer a 30% registration discount for presenters whose sessions are selected for the conference and who meet the deadline for submitting presentation handouts (July 31, 2012). No other compensation or discounts are available. Travel, hotel, and other expenses are the responsibility of the presenter. Presenters whose sessions are immediately before or after a meal function AND who do not register for the conference will receive a complimentary meal.

Presenter Responsibilities: All presentation handouts are required in electronic format for web and/or flash drive access (pdf format preferred). Handouts and all presentation materials will be required electronically by the July 31, 2012 deadline for electronic distribution at the conference.  (GPA will NOT provide handouts at the conference.)

Marketing Opportunities for Presenters:  Please note that overt marketing of services, materials, or products by presenters is not permitted during presentations.  Presenters interested in marketing their services and materials should see the Sponsor & Exhibitor Prospectus.

How Sessions Are Selected: The GPA Professional Growth and Development Committee receives all session applications, groups them into Skill Tracks, and reads and scores each application. A committee member contacts every reference provided for every speaker. The Committee Chair compiles the reviewer scores and submits a panel of recommendations to the national office. The national office staff makes all final decisions regarding speakers. Committee members are NOT allowed to contact applicants at any point during the application process.
