Heart of America Chapter
The Heart of America Chapter serves the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area but welcomes all grant writers from Kansas and Missouri. The Chapter hosts quarterly, lunchtime brown bag meetings from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Expert training is included either during the meetings or an hour or two before. The Chapter has offered training on topics such as how to use the Census Bureau website, program evaluation, outcomes development and award-winning presentation tips. Training is free to Chapter members and a nominal fee is sometimes charged for non-members.
A wealth of experience is represented among Chapter participants, from seasoned grant professionals to novices. There is always something to be learned when this diverse network meets to share ideas and information at quarterly meetings.
Chapter History
The Heart of America Chapter of the AAGP was formed in 2004 by a handful of grant writers eager to start a local chapter. Rather than forming separate Kansas and Missouri chapters, a Kansas City-based chapter was started under the name "Heart of America." Initial officers were: President - Mary Cupp, Vice President - Norma Murphy, Treasurer - Theresa Cummings, and Secretary - Megan Emmerson. Early meetings in 2005 and 2006 were spent determining the direction and focus of the chapter. Now the chapter has quarterly meetings, usually coupled with informative trainings. The Heart of America Chapter serves the Greater Kansas City metro area, but welcome anyone from Kansas and Missouri. Any person in the grant writing field or interested in grants is invited to join.
