In addition, Regional Networks can receive $25 per member for their discretionary fund and administrative support from NorCal. Grant Professional Certification: Why Does It Matter?

This free AAGP NorCal Brown Bag Series Workshop is an introduction to Grant Professional Certification, its history, standards and raison d'etre. This is not a workshop for would be grantwriters. It is designed to discuss technical aspects of test competencies for grant professionals with three years or more full-time experience in the field and a commitment to advancing the field. The testing registration fee is $400 for AAGP members and $525 for nonmembers.

This workshop would be helpful to nonprofit and agency directors or staff tasked with hiring staff skilled in government, foundation and corporate proposal development and grants management. Discussion on the competencies expected of a professional in the field will be a main focus of the hour. We will allow for 30 minutes of Q&A at the close of the presentation.

WHAT IS GPCI?

GPCI, (pronounced "gypsy") is an affiliate 501(c) (3) public benefit corporation of the American Association of Grant Professionals (AAGP). It is dedicated to the identification of grant professionals who display outstanding expertise and ethical practices and the development of a certification process that meets and exceeds the psychometric standards for education and psychological testing. To qualify for the Grant Professionals Certification (GPC), you must pass an examination developed through rigorous national standards for professional credentials.

In order to successfully pass the GPC examination, GPCI believes that the candidate must bring to the test a slate of prerequisite professional qualifications. These qualifications represent four professional areas:

  1. Education
  2. Experience
  3. Professional Development
  4. Community Involvement.

Test eligibility is based on a point system that reflects these four professional areas. The minimum number of points needed for eligibility is 120 points.  Come see if you do....

As a grantwriter in today’s still unsettled economy, are you as effective as you can be in telling your agency’s compelling story? In this workshop, Cheryl A. Clarke, author of Storytelling for Grantseekers, will provide helpful tips for crafting successful proposal stories. She will discuss the parallels between storytelling and grantwriting, such as compelling characters, detail-rich locations, meaningful dialogue and carefully constructed plot development. You don’t need to be a novelist to learn how to adapt these techniques to your proposal writing. Whether you’re a beginning grantwriter or a seasoned professional, you’ll discover something new!

PRESENTER: Cheryl A. Clarke is a fundraising consultant, trainer and author. The second edition of her best-selling book, Storytelling for Grantseekers, was recently released by Jossey-Bass. Clarke is also the co-author of Grant Proposal Makeover. Much in demand as a speaker and workshop trainer, Ms. Clarke has presented at the AAGP National Conference, several AFP International Conferences and at local AFP chapters nationwide. In her consulting practice, she works with nonprofit organizations to improve their fundraising capacity.
