Cheryl A. Clarke is the author of Storytelling for Grantseekers: A Guide to Creative Nonprofit Fundraising and the co-author of Grant Proposal Makeover: Transform Your Request from No to Yes (both books published by Jossey Bass). Much in demand as a speaker and trainer, Ms. Clarke has presented workshops at several national and international conferences, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals International Conferences and the American Association of Grant Professionals Annual Conference. Workshop Description
“The Art of Storytelling in a Grant Proposal”
In today's challenging economic and fundraising climate, are you an effective storyteller in a grant proposal? Does your writing stand out from the “sludge pile” of submissions and persuade funders?
Cheryl Clarke, author of Storytelling for Grantseekers: A Guide to Creative Nonprofit Fundraising, will provide useful techniques and tips for crafting successful proposal stories. She will discuss the parallels between storytelling and grant writing: compelling characters, detail-rich locations, colorful dialogue and carefully executed plot development. These techniques can be applied to long proposal narratives, as well as incorporated in brief online applications and lengthy government grants.
You don't need to be a novelist to learn how to adapt storytelling techniques to your proposal writing. Whether you’ve never written a proposal or are a seasoned pro, you'll discover something new by attending this workshop. In-class writing exercises will be incorporated so come prepared to tell your story!
