FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions)

 

  1. How many members are currently active in GPA?
    The number of active members varies from month to month. Currently, we have approximately 2, 000 active members.
  2. What types of membership do you have?
    GPA has five types of memberships: National, Entry-Level, Student, Legacy and Organizational.


    The National membership is the most popular. This dues rate is mainly for the persons that do not fall into the below membership dues rates.
    Entry Level
    membership is a category for grant professionals who have been in the grants profession for two years or less as proven by the submission of a resume and a letter from your employer certifying this. Membership in this category is limited to one year. After one year, the member would pay the National membership fee in order to stay in good standing with GPA.

    The Student membership is available for persons who are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at a college or university (12 credit hours) or who are enrolled in a graduate program (9 credit hours). Documentation of the enrollment must be submitted with the membership application.
    The Retiree membership is a category for persons who have been a member of GPA for two years prior to becoming a retiree member. The member cannot be working as a grant professional in any capacity.
    Legacy membership is only available to those who have joined GPA prior to December, 1999. Individuals must keep their Legacy membership current to receive the Legacy membership rate.
    Organizational membership is a dues category for organizations that would like the membership to stay with the organization. Fabulous discounts available for organizations with two or more members.

  3. Why should I become a member of GPA?
    Most grant professionals join GPA for the professional development, networking, discounts on our conferences and webinars, member benefits, camaraderie, local chapters, and the deep discounts on online search engines and grant management software programs.
  4. How do I become a member of GPA?
    Visit the GPA website at www.grantprofessionals.org and click on the Join link at the top of the page. Follow the instructions for paying online or by fax/mail.
  5. How much does it cost to join GPA?
    Each membership has a different dues rate. The National membership is $209 a year. The Entry-Level and Retiree memberships are $153 a year. The Student membership is $87 a year. The Legacy membership is $50 a year. The Organizational membership has various dues amounts from $$350 for two staff to $650 for four staff, etc.
  6. Is an annual membership based on a calendar year?
    No. If you join GPA on March 14th, your membership will be active for one year. Your membership would expire on March 31st the following year.
  1. What are your office hours?
    The GPA National Office is open Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm CST. The National Office is closed for major national holidays.
  2. Is your online member network secure?
    Yes. Our online payment system and online website is 100% secure. If you do not wish to submit your payment online, please feel free to call the GPA National Office at 913-788-3000 for assistance.
  3. How do I get a new membership card?

  4. What is my member number?
    To locate your member number, you can:

    a.) Look on your membership card.
    b.) Log on to the GPA website and click on the Members Only tab. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Update Your Profile link. This takes you to a new page (Online Store) – click on the My Information tab in the gray menu on the left. Directly under your name, is a Customer ID which is your member number.
    c.) Contact the GPA National Office to request your member number.
  5. Are membership dues tax deductible?
    GPA is a 501(c)(6) corporation. Membership dues are not tax deductible under the 501(c)(3) rulings. The cost of professional association membership dues are a business expense and could be deductible on an individual’s tax return. Persons should contact their tax advisor for further clarification.


  6. I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
    To reset your password, you may:

    a.) Log on to the GPA website and click on the Members Only tab. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Update Your Profile link. This takes you to a new page (Online Store) – click on the My Information tab in the gray menu on the left. Directly under your name, are three links. Click on the Change Password link to reset your password.
    b.) Call the GPA National Office to request your password to be reset.

  7. My email address just changed. I heard that I no longer have to contact the GPA staff to have my records updated. If so, how do I make the change?
    Yes, it's true! You can now update your official GPA member contact information yourself. Here's how: Once logged in, go to Members Only tab. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Update Your Profile. Then click on My Information in the gray menu box. This will bring up your profile where you can edit your information and update/change your password.
  8. What are your membership benefits?
    We offer a multitude of membership benefits with deep discounts on products that are beneficial to grant professionals. We provide weekly updates on emerging issues in the grants industry. To view the most current benefits that are included in a membership, visit the GPA website, click on the Membership tab and then click the Benefits tab.   9. Do you offer any membership discounts?
    Yes.

  10. I would like to hire a grant consultant. How do I find one in my area?
    A section of our site is dedicated to help you locate consultants who could assist you. Please visit the Find a Consultant on this website. On this page you can easily click on the state you would like to locate a consultant in or you can click on the Nationwide link provided to retrieve the whole list of Grant Consultants on the site.
